Healthcare
Why are some Americans opposed to universal healthcare?
"They'd raise my taxes to pay for it"... Well, the truth is you are paying that tax already in the form of premiums, co-pays, prescription drug costs. We pay that tax by subsidizing the development of drugs and then allowing drug companies to keep all of the profits when they hit the market. We pay that tax when someone without insurance goes to the hospital and we subsidize their care in our premiums. We pay that tax when we don't go to see a doctor because we don't know if it is a $500 problem or a $5000 problem. We are paying for it in the 40k+ Americans who die each year for lack of health care. We are already paying for it, AND in fact we are overpaying for it.
Why are politicians opposed to universal healthcare?
Maybe ask them... I'd venture to say it is cold hard cash. So far for this race let's see who is putting money into FL-04:
- Insurance $24,416
- Health Professionals $19,750
- Hospitals/Nursing Homes $10,750
- Pharmaceuticals/Health Products $9,000
Now ask yourself... What are they buying with all that money?
Why are businesses so opposed to universal healthcare?
We have allowed a system to persist that lets employers tie your health insurance to your job. This allows employers to hold that over your head. If you change jobs, you can go months until your new employer's health insurance kicks in. Have you ever had a job that you hated but stayed for the health insurance?
Why should businesses embrace universal healthcare?
Every business would benefit from a healthier work force. A healthy worker can have periodic exams and preventative care to ensure that when they are at work they can be more productive. They also wouldn't have to waste time maintaining agreements for their health plans. Small businesses would be more competitive with larger employers since they don't have to compete in health benefits. They can focus on being competitive in what they are doing, just running their business.
